I just got back from the Grand Ole Opry at the Ryman. Their was everything from bluegrass, to old men singing really old songs, to the wonderful Josh Turner. From the moment I stepped into the Opry, I felt like I was going back in time.
It is called the "mother church" of country music, and a church it is. It was a church a long, long time ago and has remained in its original form. My dad and I sat in a wooden church pew surrounded by stained glass, and a bunch of tried and true country music fans. It was classic.
The Grand Ole Opry allows you to enjoy the music and the artists stripped of all the lights, glitz and glamour. You are actually allowed to take pictures, and I got to walk all the way up to the stage and not be repremanded by an usher for all of Josh Turner's songs! People would get up in between songs and go get snacks, and then casually come back in and sit down. It was how music should be enjoyed.
Tonight reminded me of why I love country music so much. I love the tradition, and how people in country music respect the artists who came before them. What a memorable night!
